About me

I am a computer programmer currently living and working in Bordeaux, France. I was born in Wellington, New Zealand and grew up in a small town around 100kms from there called Masterton (through no fault of my own!). I've lived in a number of places around NZ and the world, and enjoy travelling and experiencing new languages and cultures. You can contact me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . I'm interested in pretty much everything, and this is where I share things that may (and I stress the may here Smile) interest someone else out there...

The site is currently grouped into my major interest areas (open source, programming, language and random rants) but they are likely to change as my interests do.

I'm a big fan of open source software, both for existential and pratical reasons. In many areas it leads to higher quality software and always gives you the choice to change or improve what you want. Sure, that's an aspect that only a programmer can really benefit from but there is also the added bonus of being free and not having to worry about cracking software, not getting updates or a big hole in the pocket!

When I was at school (pre-university) I was always a big fan of mathematics. While I moved on from there to languages in my first stint at university, I have since come back a little closer to it as a computer programmer. Working as a grunt coder often doesn't leave a lot of time for thinking about the higher levels of abstraction in programming but it's something that I try and get around to as often as possible. I speak a few languages and have always been fascinated about the what/where/why and how of languages, and though I'm no longer fulltime on it, it's never far away.

If you like or agree (or dislike or disagree) with anything you see here don't hesitate to leave a comment or send your abuse to me directly.

Here are some links to other places I'm present at on the web. I am still thinking whether it's better to centralise everything here or give Google an easier time by using google products (blogger, etc). It means I also get more space that way... anyway for the moment I'm going to spread myself thin.

Here are some photos on Picassa

I can't claim to know much about facebook but you can't deny that it's a great way of finding old friends. My public page is here

Back in the saddle

Alright, well after a very long absence doing absolutely sweet FA on the web, I have decided to get motivated again. About 4 years ago I said "things will be big", so I won't be so ambitious this time but anyway... I'm going to at least be better than last time!
